Nintendo’s September 9 Direct ran long on dates and short on format details, which is the part this site cares about most. Below is the release calendar as announced, followed by what we know, and do not know yet, about boxes and cartridges.
Already out or arriving this autumn
- Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion (Switch 2) went live on the eShop the day of the show.
- Star Fox gets its free update on September 29: split-screen, four-player online and three new stages.
- Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 land together on October 16. Capcom has only announced them as digital releases.
- Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves follows on October 22.
- Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy is set for November 12, the same day as a new wave of Kirby Air Riders amiibo.
- Monster Hunter Wilds opened the broadcast with a December 4 date on Switch 2. Its Ascendance expansion is pencilled in for 2027.
- Professor Layton and the New World of Steam finally has a day: December 10, on both Switch and Switch 2.
2027 so far
- January 14: Danganronpa 2×2 (Switch, Switch 2)
- January 28: Metroid Ravenous, a new 2D entry that follows Dread
- February 16: Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX and Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United
- February 25: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition
- March 4: Eternal Anima
- Spring: Kirby and the World Beyond, a 3D open-world game built around copy abilities for the series’ 35th anniversary
- May 20: Persona 4 Revival on Switch 2, three months after other platforms
Persona 6 was also confirmed for Switch 2 without a date, and Metal Slug Ultimate Collection, Mega Man: Dual Override and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Royal Edition are all listed for 2027.
What the Direct did not say
Almost nothing about cartridges. The one format fact to surface since the show is an unwelcome one: the Nintendo Store UK listing for Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition describes it as a Game-Key Card. We have a separate story on that.
For everything else, treat the format as unconfirmed until a retailer listing or the back of the box says otherwise. Two practical notes while you wait. Layton and Danganronpa 2×2 also ship on the original Switch, where Game-Key Cards do not exist, so the older version is the safer pick if the cart matters more to you than the resolution. And if you pre-order a Switch 2 boxed copy early, check the listing again before launch. Danganronpa 2×2 has already shown that a publisher can change its mind after orders open.
