I love me some Tetris in pretty much any form available. There are very few genres in which I truly excel, and puzzle games is one of them. So, I finally have a chance to play a battle royale game where I actually stand a chance of winning, which is exciting for me! Tetris 99 is the same Tetris we all know and love, with the added twist of 98 other players competing against you while hurling their junk at you in an attempt to take you out. Last person standing wins.

There are some tactics that can be used here, as you have the ability to target different opponents or groups of opponents. You can choose to target random people, people with badges, people who are targeting you, or people about to K.O. by selecting a group with the right toggle. You can also use the left toggle to select a specific person to target. I had the best luck by targeting random people while pretty much just playing my best game of Tetris that I could, and I placed as high as #2 using this tactic; but there is definitely some strategy involved here, and the game can be played in many different ways.

When an opponent sends junk to you, it gathers up on the left side of your screen. Different colors relay different timeframes before those junk lines will appear on your screen. You can clear the junk before it hits you by clearing lines next to the junk bar, so it’s a good idea to save a tetris for when junk starts piling up. You can also clear it afterward by just clearing the lines as normal. If you target someone who is about to K.O., you can finish the job, claim the kill, and get a badge for it. The more badges you have, the more junk lines you send to your targets when you clear lines—so target people with badges at your own risk, as they may choose to target their attackers!

This game is a blast to play, and highly addictive! It’s free to play, runs smoothly and already has a HUGE online community waiting to play, so pick this up today and get in on the action before people get any better at this game!
